LK Group benefits from the female influence
It is no secret that the environmental sector and the construction industry as a whole has, and still is considered a male dominated profession. However as the LK Group has expanded over the past four years, so has its number of female professionals.
The LK Group currently employs 32 members of staff over its four main disciplines; Contaminated Land, Asbestos, Accreditation and Pollution Response. Since 2004 the number of female colleagues has tripled and they now account for 25% of the LK Team. Of the women professionals employed, 75% of them work within the Contaminated and Asbestos Departments.
The LK Group’s female professionals have worked hard throughout to be recognised and respected within their respective fields and have tackled the challenges that the industry brings in a way in which can only create a positive image for the company and all other women professionals. However it is often only the male colleagues who are invited to networking and business development events.
Given their success the women professionals of the LK Group want to share their experiences with other women in the industry and are looking to do this with the help of the Centre for Construction Innovation Northwest (CCINW). The CCINW have created a National Project called “Women and Work” who provide the relevant platform for women professionals to meet and gain valuable training and networking time with other like minded females. The LK Group support the CCINW in their approach and are looking to try to raise the awareness of such female orientated networking events by featuring this article in their newsletter.
The LK Group’s female professionals are also looking into the possibility of training to become Construction Ambassadors through Construction Skills which will allow them to build a positive image for the construction industry but also motivate young people into pursuing a construction based career.
